Tech Tips
Oil, LPG & Natural Gas Spares > Gas Thermocouples & Flame Failure Devices
We supply a large range of thermocouples and flame failure devices (FFDs) suitable for a wide range of applications such as boilers, burners, fires and cookers, as well as process and manufacturing combustion equipment.
A thermocouple (often referred to as a "thermocoupler"), acts as a flame monitoring safety device, and is connected to a electro-magnet unit normally built into the gas control device. When the tip of the thermocouple is heated by the flame it produces a electromotive force (EMF) which is used to energise the magnetic unit (mag unit), and maintain the gas supply. When the flame is extinguished the current is reduced closing the magnet and shutting off the gas supply to the burner.
