What is a Heat Interface Unit? A Heat Interface Unit (HIU) is effectively a stripped-down boiler which is connected to a single communal heating system (or heat network) to provide localised, metered heat to residential properties such as apartments within a development.
They can provide both heating and hot water, and in properties with greater hot water demand can be connected to a storage cylinder to facilitate stored hot water.
HIUs utilise many of the same parts as a combination boiler, such as plate heat exchanger, pump, expansion vessel and pressure relief valve, and as such are prone to failure over time.
